LETTER FROM BANGKOK (2)

Ing K

Wednesday 26th May

At six the alarm clock screamed to get me up for the Inter-Faith Exorcism Mass at Rajaprasong intersection, defiled by so much hatred, lies and bloodshed. Sorry to say I just couldn’t get up. We’d had a very festive Celebrity Visitation the day before in the form of Chatichai the Consulting Artist, who came to paint the face of his own corpse for the lynching scene.

Today the neighbourhood construction workers are back deep-piling away at three new highrises around the office. I guess we’re back to normal. People seem to be working with great zest—the girls, for instance, have gone on a costume and samosa trek to Pahurat. They’ve obviously missed being able to work. Bangkok, the Terminator, is back.
